about indoor air pollution in your own home! |
The effects of indoor air pollution are profound. As we stated previously, around 4.3 million people die from household air pollution and even more become sick from it. The effects of indoor air pollution range from short term, like eye and throat irritation, to long term, like respiratory disease and cancer. And also, as we’ve stated, exposure to high levels of pollutants like carbon monoxide can result in immediate death. Based only on cancer alone, indoor air pollution has been ranked by federal scientists as one of the most important environmental problems in the United States.
Symptoms of indoor air pollution are very broad and depend on the contaminant. They’re not always severe like cancer or respiratory disease and can be mistaken for symptoms of other illnesses such as allergies, stress, colds, and influenza. Some common symptoms include coughing, sneezing, watery eyes, fatigue, dizziness, headaches, and upper respiratory congestion. |
If you notice your symptoms subside from leaving a room or building, it may be
a warning caused by indoor air pollution and immediate action should be taken.
